ABSTRACT
The literary production of Amable Tastu falls into two somewhat overlapping phases, one "creative" and the other "professional": her lyric poetry, composed predominantly before her husband's financial difficulties, reflects characteristic features of French Romanticism. Her prose works, written under financial pressure, show how she adapted her talents to financial exigencies. In both periods, though, it is striking how successful her publications were, invariably going through many editions.
