ABSTRACT

Feminism is for Burnier more than a fight for concrete women's rights and interests; it involves a total metamorphosis of civilization as we know it. Humanity can be saved and reborn, thanks to the full integration of feminine creativity (spiritual values) with abstract masculine thinking (rationalism, empiricism). Burnier argues her point referring to concepts and symbols from antiquity, eastern philosophy, and lost Utopian civilizations. A desire to be assimilated in a big cosmic plan of divine love and the conviction that reincarnation is a step toward the projected better world increasingly prevail. De droom der rede (1984; The Dream of Reason), written under her real name, C.I. Dessaur, which she uses for her academic publications, is a philosophical treatment of these ambitious themes.
