Learning-The appropriation of culturally valued physical and psychological tools as part of participation in active, distributed meaning making. Members’ resources-Social and linguistic resources for signaling and interpreting identities and making meaning of texts (Fairclough, 1989). Situation definition-A socioculturally particular type of activity or context that specifies what we are doing at a given moment or what we take to be the background against which our utterances and actions are to be interpreted. Activity-An uninterrupted stretch of physical activity whether carried out by one or more people. Activity may be distributed among people and the physical and psychological tools they use. In addition, for purposes of analysis, activity can be broken down into subactivities and individual actions. Utterance-A unit of analysis of speech that corresponds to any uninterrupted stretch of speaking by one or more people.
