ABSTRACT
For any set of mental representations or processes, one can ask whether the representations are domain specific or domain general. But most representations are neither wholly domain specific nor wholly domain general (Sternberg, 1989). In this chapter, I argue that the construal of a dichotomy between domain generality and domain specificity is overstated. Although my remarks are oriented toward the study of creativity, they would apply as well to other psychological phenomena.
