ABSTRACT
In 1999, both Microsoft and Intel were added to the Dow Jones Industrial Index. This development symbolized a new era in which the information technology industry was officially recognized as one of the most important sectors in the U.S. economy. As the 21st century unfolds, the online industry has taken on a completely different economic as well as social status.
