ABSTRACT

The discussion of bullying within ecological theory (Swearer & Doll, 2001; Swearer & Espelage, this volume) provides a natural framework for a discussion of social support in the lives of children and adolescents involved in bullying behavior in schools. According to the ecological perspective, problems related to bullying stem from an interaction between the child and their environments (Swearer & Doll, 2001). Within the ecological model, the environments that may influence bullying behavior are broad, including the family, school, and community settings. One important contextual factor of these environments is social support.
