ABSTRACT

When Nicole1 was born nine years ago her parents, Tina and Scott, and 3year-old brother, Mark, were excited about the prospect of a baby girl in their family. Their excitement was coupled with the age-old parental concerns about health, adjustment, and a new baby’s future. Would she feed well? Would she develop an easy sleep pattern? How would her brother get along with her after the initial excitement wore off? How long would it take for the family to adjust as a foursome? Would the fact that Nicole has Down syndrome influence family patterns and schedules?
