ABSTRACT

We offer teachers, their students, and whole communities a recipe for transforming science one inquiry project at a time. Realizing the promise of inquiry instruction in science can convert students into lifelong learners-eager to revisit topics studied in science class and willing to learn new topics just in time for the next election, job , or personal decision. We address this challenge by leveraging technol ogy and inquiry, connecting to everyday resources such as Internet sites and news articles, addressing pressing societal problems such as global warming, and coalescing the efforts of the entire enterprise including curriculum designers, natural scientists, computer scien tists, cognitive scientists, classroom teachers, administrators, and students.
