ABSTRACT
The course of learning is rarely a smooth accession of motor skill, or a closer and closer relationship of response to some particular environmental event, as the learning process goes on. Learning curves, for the individual animal, show great fluctuations from day to day-now backsliding, now sudden improvement. It is only by averaging the results from a number of animals, trial by trial, that one can manage to get a simple curve showing steady improvement with practice.
