ABSTRACT
This essay is based on data which I have been collecting since 1970 among Gypsy groups (Rom) 1 in East Slovakia and will describe the changing social position of Roma in rural East Slovakia. Economic interactionbetweenthe minority group and mainstream society and thus, traditional Rom occupations, will be analyzed.
