ABSTRACT
So what is left for an afterword to do? The authors included here have laid out a rich variety of theories, observations, and strategies that illuminate the ways technology shapes and is shaped by collaboration in the humanities. The respondents for each section pull together the issues raised by individual chapters, showing how they all contribute to the theme of the section and to the larger questions raised by the book itself. Surely, dear reader, you do not need more synthesis or summary. What may be useful is a look toward the future, a discussion of what this book tells us to consider as we move onward in the quickly changing world of technology. I think this can be done best through an interrogation of the terms that remain relatively unexamined within these pages. I mean terms like collaboration, humanities, and community. But first I want to trouble one of the central assumptions of this collection.
