ABSTRACT

The majority of men and women have occasional experiences that could be labeled sexual dysfunctions or disorders. The most common are occasional failures to obtain or maintain an erection, or to ejaculate before they wish to do so in men, and in women failure to reach orgasm when they desire to do so. Others include sexual fantasies usually considered deviant, such as in men, having sex with nonconsenting or under-age partners, and in women, being forced to have sex. Many male adolescents carry out illegal sexual behaviors, that is, sexual offenses, such as sexual exhibitionism, voyeurism, and making obscene phone calls, most of which are not reported to authorities. The decision of what is normal sexual behavior is arbitrary, determined by social attitudes. Masturbation and homosexuality, strongly condemned in the past as immoral and unnatural, subsequently became classified as sexual disorders, and are now accepted as normal expressions of sexuality.
