ABSTRACT

Arecent college graduate prepares herself for her first job interview. She buys the right suit, reads the right books, conducts the right company research, and prepares herself for the questions that the potential employer may propose. In preparing herself for those questions, she develops a mental picture of the situation, including likely dialogue. She imagines the questions the interviewer may propose while also developing possible answers she may offer. This mental representation of likely interpersonal interaction is the concept that has become known as the imagined interaction, or II.
