ABSTRACT
A discussion about “Teaching Within the Context of Modern Academic Life” would not be complete without mention of one of the most active debates in academia over the last 25 years. What roles do teaching and research play in the academy? What constitutes scholarship and how do we evaluate the utility of faculty members’ efforts? In this chapter, I discuss these issues as they might cross disciplinary boundaries, but I also attempt to relate them specifically to psychology where possible.
