ABSTRACT
Traditionally, the marital relationship has been the centerpiece around which the family is created and grows. Although not all families consist of a married couple, an examination of family research would be incomplete without examination of the research devoted to this part of the family unit. Marital research has attempted to understand the nature of couples’ relationships, to determine why relationships succeed or fail, and to develop ways to help troubled relationships.
