ABSTRACT

Before, because of our poverty, because of the war, there were many moments when we felt very oppressed, even in our hearts. We did not have a voice, to denounce anything, to explain how we were thinking and feeling. We could not explain this, and in some ways, we did not even understand why we felt so broken apart inside, so oppressed. But now, now that we are in the literacy class, learning to read and write, learning to reflect on the meaning of written word, now we are gaining the abilities and the courage to express ourselves, to express all that has happened to us in our lives. Yes, now we are slowly losing our fear of speaking, of expressing ourselves. In the literacy class, we have discovered many things, things that before we never knew. We are learning to read and write, we are learning about the value that we have. Too, we are learning new skills, so now we can contribute to the work in the community. This is important. Before we couldn’t do this. Now we feel more important in the community.
