ABSTRACT

Browning High School enhances the preservation of Blackfeet culture, language, and traditions by requiring their students to take one semester of Native American studies with an emphasis on the Blackfeet Nation. The course encourages students to value and continue Blackfeet oral traditions, music, games, contests, arts and crafts, drumming, singing, and history of the tribe. Determined to promote the continuation of the Blackfeet culture and respect for all Native American tribes, Browning requires all teachers to take three graduate-level credits in Native American studies before they are given a third teaching contract.
