ABSTRACT

The scientific method possesses persuasive authority among scientists and lay persons. Yet, despite its credentials, it is not a set of golden principles that guarantee validity, or that offer absolute guides for the most critical decisions in research. Systematic and precise modes of inquiry are the passwords. But more is needed.
