The Origin of the County and the Township THE relation of the town to the township and county is not well understood by the layman, nor indeed by most geographers. Yet it is necessary for us to know something of the way in which the land upon which a town is built is subdivided and sold or leased to the pioneer, later settler, or citizen. A few words may first be given to the larger division of the land known as the 'county*.
