ABSTRACT

Recent changes in the medical industry in the United States have influenced the approach of practitioner and medical educators to the clinical, daily operations of practicing medicine. These alterations have produced, among other things, a growing concern for the importance of communication and training in the health care context. For instance, communication is being recognized by medical educators as an important component of the medical students’ social and clinical training (Novack, Volk, Drossman, & Lipkin, 1993).
