ABSTRACT

There are many theoretical instances of these relational positions (see Lerner, 1998a, for a presentation of the range of contemporary instances of these perspectives). As explained in prior chapters, based on ideas associated with probabilistic epigenesis, it is possible to group these relational theoretical alternatives to nature-nurture split positions under the label of developmental systems theories (e.g., Ford & Lerner, 1992; Gottlieb, 1997, Gottlieb et al., 1998; Sameroff, 1983; Thelen & Smith, 1994, 1998; Tobach & Greenberg, 1984).
