ABSTRACT

Well, I’ve learned a lot of facts, but what do they all mean?

A typical comment from a college student? I believe so. Many students believe that college professors are only concerned with fact memorization. It is generally believed by students and professors alike that facts (perhaps crammed into one’s head the night before an exam) are soon forgotten. On the other hand, general concepts are retained for a much longer time. Still, many basic college courses require the student to memorize a lot of facts.
