ABSTRACT

The term cognition and the related adjective cognitive were, for many years, associated with experimental psychology and related areas such as learning, memory, and thinking. These terms were introduced to applied domains of psychology in the 1960s. Sam Osipow was one of the pioneers in adapting these terms into counseling and career psychology, using cognitive-behavioral and cognitive-behavioralrelated variables in his early research (Osipow, 1962, 1969, 1972; Osipow & Scheid, 1971) and conceptual writings (Osipow, 1970; Osipow & Walsh 1970a, 1970b).
