ABSTRACT

The Project A research program explored the relationships between the characteristics of individuals and their performance. For the most part, it did not take into account the effects of the situation or environment on performance, or on the predictor-performance relationship. Environmental differences may also contaminate measurement (Brogden & Taylor, 1950b) or restrict criterion variance (Steel & Mento, 1986). However, two related research efforts by ARI and contractor staff did examine the relationship of environmental characteristics to individual performance. This chapter summarizes their efforts.
