ABSTRACT
In my abbreviated case study, I focus on the evolutionary turns in my career from assistant professor to corporate trainer to independent, then outsourced consultant to published author, and full professor. My professional evolution is probably more common than unique. Although many professors, especially those in business schools, consult to some extent, many-whom I know-do not translate their consulting experiences into publications or even a coherent practice. I describe my own experiences here because my story is an example of one path a professor can take by responding to evolving marketplace realities and possibilities to gain and transfer significant consulting experience into academic practice. This path is, admittedly, only one way. The context and lessons from my story both agree with and differ from Delbecq’s described scenarios and situations. I return to this comparison later.
