ABSTRACT

As someone working in the healthcare field, a field that is currently experiencing rapid changes both technologically and legislatively, Vanetti’s chapter provides many insights into the underlying factors involved in the process of implementing changes in an organization. He examines language, pointing out that new concepts or technology must be presented in a way that is easy to understand, and that both consultants and their methodology have a better shot if they have proven track records of success. He sees the importance of a felt need on the part of the organization for the project to be specifically defined, attainable, and economically feasible. He also explores the resistance to innovations that the consultant can expect to encounter and the flexibility required of the consultant to be able to respond to the changing needs and environment of the organization as the implementation progresses. In conclusion, he emphasizes the importance of delivering a quality product, one that will enhance the success of the organization.
