ABSTRACT

Delbecq reflects on the transfer of theory into practice from the perspective of a senior academic. He talks honestly about his own “uneven history” with concrete examples illustrating the challenges associated with “transferring insight between academic research and management practice,” offering us an opportunity to learn from his successes and his failures. What is most striking, however, is the significant difference between the perspective of a senior academic and the reality for many consultants, particularly those serving high-tech companies in California’s Silicon Valley. These differences have their roots in the character of the organizations with which they work.
