ABSTRACT

The case study teaching method has been adopted by an increasingly broad community of academic disciplines. Current pedagogical literature is replete with evidence of this trend. The author will demonstrate how the method is effectively employed to teach information literacy skills in a credit-bearing library course. The sample case described in this chapter is broken down into its core elements, including classroom management techniques and assessment of learning outcomes. The chapter author also provides working definitions of the case method and related concepts, recommendations for developing a case, and a discussion of the method’s history and its effectiveness.
