ABSTRACT

By examining the perspectives of consumers (teenagers), practitioners, and researchers, five best practices on preventing teen pregnancy emerged. These best practices include sex education, access to contraceptives, and involvement of parents, as well as peer mentoring /youth development, and building community alliances. Consistent with multidimensional evidence-based practice (MEBP), these findings were then analyzed using potency and value criteria, including examining the best practices for strengths and weaknesses in the areas of community centeredness, empowerment, and respect for diversity. Four recommendations emerge for improving best practices for preventing teen pregnancy.
