ABSTRACT

How can a language teacher use the concept of mentoring as a vehicle to better understand students, to improve classroom effectiveness, and to progressively evolve as a professional? In this chapter, I explore new classroom meanings and nuances of mentoring. I apply these to help me develop enhanced relationships with my students and to learn more about their readiness and capabilities to learn. New learning approaches are also introduced, including a “culture wheel” which allows me to improve the teaching of culture as part of a language class.
