ABSTRACT

The span of fifteen years’ research divides into three periods of five years. The first, from 1983 to 1987, was based on studies of school effectiveness in a Project of National Significance in Australia. The outcome was a model for management centred on learning and teaching that formed the basis of training programs for parents, principals and teachers in Victoria, culminating in a book called The Self-Managing School (Caldwell and Spinks 1988).
