ABSTRACT

The boundaries of physical education as a school subject have been clearly drawn, the precise position of the role of sports in schools has been defined and what teachers and pupils do in lessons and on the sports field has been examined. This has brought us to a clear understanding of the state, status and place of physical education and sports in schools today. The pedagogy of educational practice dictates how the subject is taught, the values that are promoted and the attitudes and knowledges that are instilled in young people throughout the process of education. The current situation is the result of an historical development that has been well documented. Change is constant, and so change continues. Change must be viewed as an opportunity to build a more philanthropic pedagogy.
