ABSTRACT

I was born in 1935. I was well cared for; my parents loved me; I think I was happy. I know I was fortunate. But I remember little of my early years. Few people do. Perhaps that is why we have to rediscover as adults the obvious truth of the importance of early learning. Cultures vary in the value they place on early childhood. I think our culture underestimates the first phase of human life. I would like to change that.
