ABSTRACT

In small schools most staff will have key curriculum managerial roles, and some individuals will have a whole range of them. This may be, for example, where a staff consists of a headteacher, perhaps a deputy headteacher, a special needs coordinator and a staff development officer. When allocating specific subject leader roles in such a situation you should first allocate the four core subjects, followed by linked foundation subjects. In this way the key subjects are given the status they require while the other subjects still have an advocate for them amongst the staff. Allocation of subject leader roles is discussed in more detail in Chapter 5.
