ABSTRACT

Roundthorn County Primary School is housed in spacious and well-maintained but very old buildings on the edge of Oldham borough close to the open countryside. It has hard-surfaced playing areas and it benefits from shared use of the nearby comprehensive school playing fields. The school is one-form entry and has classes in two buildings on the same site. There are usually about 240 pupils on role with little variation on this number. The additional forty-place nursery is located in a nearby separate building. Most of the pupils at Roundthorn School come from the surrounding district which is comprised of mainly good quality terraced housing. Forty-two per cent of the children come from homes where parents originate from Pakistan.
