ABSTRACT

In many parts of the world, programs have been introduced to encourage girls and women into science, but the numbers participating, particularly in the physical sciences and in science-related careers, are still small. This raises the question of whether there is a better way for educationists to rethink the interaction of gender and science. In this chapter I suggest that the work of feminist scholars, particularly in relation to the image of science, provides an appropriate starting point for such rethinking.
