ABSTRACT

This chapter attempts to outline the contemporary field of school effectiveness. It utilizes results from an unpublished, unique survey completed before the preparation of this book (Teddlie and Roberts, 1993) as an organizational framework for Sections 2 and 3 of the book. This two-phase perceptual survey of ‘experts’ in SER concerned their perceptions of the current importance of certain topics (e.g. the context of school effects, the stability of school effects, the effective schools correlates) within the SER field.
