ABSTRACT

Toward the continuing agenda of re-articulating and understanding the nature of intellectual work, in this chapter I attempt to link some current Australian and US educational critique with what are probably some fairly obscure notions about intellectuals and their work. The current criticisms I address are those which have been constructed against ‘corporatism’ in education. The reason for choosing to focus on these debates lie in what I take to be an unseen conception of corporatism, a conception which reveals more potential than risk. The alternative notions of intellectual work I present pivot around a construct named ‘the nomadic intellectual’.
