ABSTRACT

Geography stands in limbo through a revised Order which has substantially reduced the extent of the subject in the first two Key Stages. This diminution is in both required curriculum content and assessment arrangements. The reductions have been welcomed widely from within the teaching profession on the grounds of prescription and overload. However, it is to be hoped that the gains made in establishing a sense of the subject’s identity in the primary years due to the national curriculum requirements since 1991 are not lost along with the redundant statements of attainment (SoA).
