ABSTRACT
What do we mean by family? What are its distinguishing features and functions? In sociological contexts ‘coreness’ is a predominant feature of the family-a quality whose nature varies depending on the period in history and the cultural setting we choose for the study of the family. Must we always include children if we wish to speak about the family? And what is the role of children in the family?
