ABSTRACT
The Invention of Classical Contract Until the 1970s, the study of contract was divided between those concerned with the modern law and a relatively small group of scholars interested in the evolution of the early precursors of contract before the industrial revolution. Where contract law of the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries was addressed it was usually ahistorically as a part of the modern law which happened to reach further back.
