ABSTRACT

After identifying the development needs, it is time to plan the event. Many but by no means all development needs may be met through an event such as a workshop, seminar or conference. Some development needs may be more appropriately addressed through guidebooks, Web-based materials, one-on-one consultations or other methods (see, for instance, the comprehensive guide for planning all aspects of a development programme: Burnstad, Hoss and McHargue, 1997). However, events are often an effective development method because they bring people together who have common interests or needs. More importantly, events provide an opportunity for staff to exchange ideas and learn from each other.
