ABSTRACT

As was described in Chapter 1 of this book, one of the most significant changes to mark the emergence of lifelong learning was that from face-toface to distance to e-learning. Over the past couple of decades, open and distance learning systems have emerged from the margins of education and training to take their place at the centre of things. They have been widely accepted as one of the most important examples of the evolution of lifelong learning from traditional forms of education, and they incorporate many of the features of the concept of lifelong learning introduced in the first part of this book.
