ABSTRACT

Professional development in schools is big business; the ever-increasing mound of professional development invitations that land on any senior administrator's desk attest to this fact. There are courses to suit every school's pocket and needs, as well as courses to cure every malaise known to education, including a number not yet identified by the researchers. Most do not carry health-warnings, yet the request to ‘post this in the faculty room’ is as insidious as a virus, and in the frontier territory of international education, purveyors of snake oil abound.
