ABSTRACT

The University of Wolverhampton is a ‘modern university’ with a strong regional role in the centre of England. It has a strong widening participation mission, and engages students from a range of cultural, educational and socioeconomic backgrounds. It is constantly striving to find ways of improving the learning environment for its students, and several years ago it set up a department to support the Development and Evaluation of Learning Technology Applications (DELTA). More recently, it established a Centre for Learning and Teaching (CeLT) and, together, these two departments have been key in encouraging the widespread involvement of teaching staff in using information and communications technology (ICT) to provide support for students. This chapter describes how this has been achieved and discusses some of the critical success factors.
