ABSTRACT

At the University of Luton the computer based assessment (CBA) system is centred on Question Mark Designer for Windows, In the academic year 2000/ 2001 over 10,000 students sat summative and 3,000 formative computer based assessments. This chapter describes the introduction and successful use of ICT student assessment from both the institutional and individual lecturer perspective. It suggests reasons for the introduction of both summative and formative CBA into the undergraduate experience, and puts forward a number of critical success factors for its implementation. It further maintains that a sound pedagogic umbrella that utilizes a team approach based on a well formulated staff development programme is essential.
