ABSTRACT

Preamble In our MDV undergraduate education we have all often attended lectures and our postgraduate work also offers many opportunities to attend lectures and to deliver them. In this chapter I shall discuss how to make lectures more effective, whether you are attending or you are facilitating them. As a working definition, I will consider a large group that is identified arbitrarily as more than 30 people and the median time of the lecture is 60 minutes, although it could be as short as 30 minutes. I shall use the word ‘audience’ for the adult learners at the lectureyou might be a lecturer facilitating the lecture or an adult learner in the audience.
