ABSTRACT

The incident in this case occurred at an English university college that facilitates the higher education of students from a range of widely diverse social and academic backgrounds. A considerable proportion of the students were of mature age. Sadie, the student in the case, was 40 years old and was being supported by the learning support tutor who was at the time 51 years old and had been teaching for 23 years, but had only been supporting English native speakers’ learning development for six months.
