How can it go so wrong? How can the service provider with the best of intentions and access to resources produce such a disastrous effect? In this particular case, the misunderstandings were eventually sorted out, but how can such situations be avoided? Obviously the problem is one of failure of communication between the service provider and the patient. But there is more to it than that. In order to fully understand the background for this event, it is necessary to look at the conditions and problems of service provision to immigrants living with HIV in Denmark.
