ABSTRACT
Recommendations of BS.6465 Part 1:1984 “Sanitary Installations” states that every new dwelling should be provided with a minimum of one WC, one bath or shower, one wash basin and one sink. Where a WC is separate, a wash basin should be provided in the same compartment, or in a room giving direct access to the WC compartment. A second WC with wash basin is a desirable provision with its location near the entrance to the dwelling. A bathroom containing a WC should not be entered directly from a bedroom unless it is intended for the sole use of the bedroom occupants, and a second WC is provided elsewhere in the dwelling. Note: In the private sector, a shower is equal to a bath (Public Health Act 1961, Section 33). In Scotland, a wash basin is required in, or adjacent to, every WC compartment (The Building Standards (Scotland) Regulations 1981/Q7).
